The flying hot rod - The Millennium Falcon

Hot rodding has a long and illustrious history, a very long history. In fact, if we journey all the way back to a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away we can see something akin to hot rodding. This particular example comes in the form of a heavily modified freighter with a scruffy-looking nerfherder for a pilot, the Millennium Falcon.

What started life as a Corellian Engineering Corporation YT-1300 light freighter became one of the most infamous and, most importantly, fastest smuggling vessels in the galaxy. By no means a new piece of tech, the Millennium Falcon had become so heavily modified by a string of questionable owners that it was its very own class of ship.

One of the most significant modifications, as with any good hot rod, was the speed. The stock Girodyne SRB42 engines had been modified with a SLAM overdrive and a stupidly powerful hyperdrive unit. This meant that outpacing pursuers, even the Empire, was no issue.

As well as this, and perhaps a little less ordinary were the mods to the armaments and the armour. This former freighter now sported an arsenal that you'd normally only find on a vessel two or three times the size.

It now featured two quad-laser cannons, two concussion missile tubes and a ground buzzer cannon, just in case. To make sure that other people couldn't shoot you before you got the chance there were also three deflector shields as well as some hefty physical shielding on the hull.

So if you ever happen to be in the market for what you could essential label as a tank with a hyperdrive and some handy hidey-holes, then this could be just the vessel for you. Or at least it would have been, like I said, this was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, who knows where the Millennium Falcon is now. You may also have to fight a wookie for it but you know, details.
